training going well!

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Well, almost a month has gone by now and my training seems to be going well.

I can definitely notice a difference. I have reverted to the good old classic split of 4 days a week.

Monday: chest & triceps

Wednesday: Shoulders & Abs

Friday: Back & Biceps

Saturday: Legs & bodyweight press-ups.

I feel like I am stripping some fat away and building muscle again so over all I am quite pleased.

However, it could all go a bit wrong this weekend as I am away seeing some friends and we are going for a slap up tapas meal. That means buckets of chorizo…. umm, I can taste it now! All washed down with numerous beers ( and a cheeky tequila) I predict.

Ah well, back in the gym on monday… pretend the weekend never happened!

New year … new ambition for that cover model look!

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Well, a new year again already! New year’s resolutions and new promises to myself ( some I have already broken ).

Towards the end of last year my training really fell at the wayside! Other commitments and grief from the Mrs about too much dedication to the gym ( and not other stuff that is equally as important ) really stopped any training in it’s tracks and I was lucky to get to the gym once a week!

I have decided though that I just can’t spend so much time in the gym so I have had to rethink training and goals to make them more likely to achieve.

I am now training 4 times a week…

2 full upper body workouts and 2 full lower body workouts.

I have decided I can’t commit to splitting it all down and training each body part individually so I am having to find another way and this is a 4 week trail to see how it goes.

I have done a couple so far and believe me, if you stick to mainly compound exercises you really ache the next day!

I am interested in other peoples’s opinions on this matter. Has anyone else done training like this and do they believe that it works just as well?

Snow coming down hard today so it may be a long walk to gym! If it is even open that is!

happy new year!!

How to perform a correct Deadlift

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

I’m just going to write a quick post today on how to perform a deadlift correctly. When i look around the gym i see so many people doing it incorrectly and always want to tell them how to do it but i’m not one of those people … you know the kind, the guy who is pure beef who feels it is his mission to tell you every exercise you are performing wrong. First time you see it as helpful but after a while it’s like “dude, leave me alone!”.

Anyway, here is a good video i found which may help with your deadlift form:

I did these this morning, feel great!

my first workout

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Morning everyone.

Just letting you all know how my first workout went. Enjoyed it on friday, really helps if you have written down infront of you what you are doing! Saves time wandering about and getting bored!

I only did 16 sets on chest - Incline bench (4 sets), flat dumbell press (4 sets), incline flyes (4 sets) followed by burning out press ups (4 very hard sets).

Then i did 8 sets on biceps - 4 sets of barbell curls followed by 4 sets of hammer curls.

I managed to do it all in under an hour which is really streamlining for me! I wrote down all my weights and reps as well, so can get straight into it next time. This regime is going to last for 4 weeks then i change it slightly.

I didn’t think i had done that much but when i woke on sunday ( 2 days after) my chest was killing! A bizarre self satisfying pain ( you guys out there know what i mean, you are killing but it’s great cos you feel like you have really worked your muscles and you feel pumped).

Cycled to work again this morning. Trying to put the bike in a really high gear all the way to get the lactic acid in the legs. Ends up a pretty tiring cycle that way and helps to work my legs. Since starting to cycle to work about 5 weeks ago my girlfriend mentioned the other night she thought my legs had grown and they were more toned! RESULT!

Looking forward to tonight’s workout… gunna smash it in! will let you know what i do.
