Another weekends cricket gone. wasnt a great weekend we got stuffed by Gomersal. I bowled shockingly, really didnt feel like i had any rythm, ive been struggling with my run up in the past few weeks but a 2 hour net session after the game on saturday seems to have ironed things out a bit, we will see next saturday!
Now there was quite an argument last week between England and new Zealand in the second one day international. There was a run out after the batter had collided with the bowler and been injured, England appealed and the wicket was given. Now understandably the Kiwis weren’t too happy about the whole thing, a bit unsporting they said. Paul Collingwood, the england captain, had been given the opportunity to take the appeal back and call the batter back to the crease but declined and the wicket stood. People were saying that was unsporting and unfair, especially the Kiwis.
I was in 2 minds about this, in a pressure situation where the balance of the game could be swayed in your favour I would find it only natural to play to win. However it raises the shall we say moral issue of whether it is sporting or not, I can fully understand why people see this as unsporting but I think in the heat of the moment at that level in sport you play to win. Fair play to him Collingwood appologised after the game, rightly so, but i back him , he made the right decision at the time in the situation he was in. If it happened in the local Sunday league then it would have been wrong to give him out, but at a proffesional level, under alot of pressure you have to take the advantages that come your way!
