Profile : Hannah Mayho - Cyclist Champ

Hannah Mayho - British Cycling squad member

Holder of various age group national titles, aiming for the 3000m individual pursuit at 2012 Olympics.

Name: Hannah Mayho

Date of Birth: 10/12/1990

Occupation: Student

Sports I do: Track and road cycling. My main event is the 2000m pursuit, however this year I also hope to target the scratch race and women’s team pursuit, which is a new event. On the road I excel most at bunch sprinting, however on races which don’t suit me I play a team role and help out my GB team mates.

Sports kit I use: I am provided with pro-vision kit from my team sponsor, Longstaff Cycles-BH and Giro glasses and helmet. I am also a big fan of the Skins range at sportsshoes as I find that they keep my legs fresh when I’m travelling and help them to recover in between races. I would also recommend using Skins in the gym as I find I get less sore and seem to recover better for training the next day when using them!

A bit about me: Obviously I love sport! I’m always on the go whether its on the bike, in the gym or studying for A levels in Human Biology, Psychology, English Literature and PE. I also love shopping and spending time with my friends!

Some of my best sporting achievements so far : Before I got into cycling I was interested in running and athetics, being ranked 8th in the UK for U13 girls 800m in 2003. I was also a keen netballer and was in the West Yorkshire County netball squad for a year. Cycling-wise, I got my first international medal last year at the Junior Europeans where I won silver in the 2000m individual pursuit. I have also won 4 National titles, 2 in 2006 and 2007 respectively and 3 other National medals.

My sporting objectives for this year: I hope to become European champion this year in the 2000m pursuit and also break the National record, something I missed last year by 0.7 seconds! I also aim to be selected for the womens team pursuit at the Europeans and to do well in that too. I will also aim to sucessfully defend my National titles on the track (individual pursuit) and road and become an all round better rider! At the end of this year I will apply to join British Cycling’s Olympic Academy Programme which, if I were to be offered a place, would enable me to concentrate on cycling full time.
