Panic setting in!!

Right everyone …

Panic is setting in, i go on holiday in 2 days!!! eek!!! i think i’m in not bad shape but could always be better…

Just decided that tonight i’m going to challenge myself and do the “300″  cast devised a workout and kept on challenging themselves to see how quick they could do it.

This is what i am going to do …

a) Pullups - 25 reps

b) Deadlifts with 135lbs - 50 reps

c) Pushups - 50 reps

d) 24-inch Box jumps - 50 reps

e) Floor wipers - 50 reps

f) Single-arm Clean-and-Press with 36lbs Kettlebell - 50 reps

g) Pullups - 25 reps

i’m a bit nervous. You obviously aren’t supposed to do it everyday but is a once off thing occasionally to test yourself.

How to perform a correct Deadlift

I’m just going to write a quick post today on how to perform a deadlift correctly. When i look around the gym i see so many people doing it incorrectly and always want to tell them how to do it but i’m not one of those people … you know the kind, the guy who is pure beef who feels it is his mission to tell you every exercise you are performing wrong. First time you see it as helpful but after a while it’s like “dude, leave me alone!”.

Anyway, here is a good video i found which may help with your deadlift form:

Right, i have 2 weeks to go now. Really pushing it , I may even be overdoing it but still back and biceps tonight. I was thinking last night how i would be really annoyed if i put all this work in and i get my holiday pictures back and i’m really not happy with my shape. I know there are more things to life but hey ho!

Also, someone yesterday asked me if i will still keep in shape after my holiday. It did kind of make me think. For the past few years i really have made the gym a high priority but do feel like now that after this holiday i will have to calm it down. I think i will just try and find a workout that involves only 3 days a week weights and just keep my body at the level it is now.

Also, I will try and get some pics up on here as some of have requested so you all can see if the hard work has paid off.

last of all… anyone excited about the olympics? I am … Think i may get grief from my girlfriend though!

real reasons for the shaping up!

Morning,

Someone over the weekend asked me why i was desperate to get in shape for holiday even though i was going away with my girlfriend. I did see their point but i said it wasn’t for her, it was purely for me. I want to be confident when i am around the pool and walking around topless for the majority. I want to be thinkin that people are envious of me. EXTREMELY vain i know but honest none the least!

Also, when i look back at my holiday snaps i don’t want to be hiding my eyes when i see my self because my little belly is out all the time!

Basically it is purely a vain reason for me getting into shape for holiday but then again, who gets in shape for holiday for any other reason?

Afternoon everyone,

I had the weekend off as it was my girlfriends birthday and we back to her home town where i ate a ridiculous amount. Does anyone else find that when there is a BBQ and you aren’t cooking and food keeps on getting cooked and put down on a table you never stop eating untill the BBQ goes off? This is what i did, and i must have packed away a whole cow and pig with the amount i ate!

Anyway, i was discusing with someone the other day how Stuart from big brother ( i knwow i shouldn’t watch it but i can’t help it, i am blame my missus ). Anyway, we discussed how he is still looking in good shape after this time in the house without a serious gym, i don’t go for 2 days and feel like i lose shape!

I also aid that if i could get in shape like him for my hols i would be quite happy, and i’m sure my girlfriend would be happy as well! Here is a pic if you don’t know what i am talking about …

Great day today. Got up early, went to the gym and did a fantatsic chest workout…

3 X flat bech press

3 X incline dumbell flyes

3 X cross over flyes

3 X stability ball dumbell press

3 X press ups.

Then went and picked my girlfriend up and went to the swimming baths for an hour. Came home, had some lunch, had a kip and then went back to te gym to do triceps. Awesome… feeling it now though!

Forgot to ask though, anyone watch the wimbledon final? best final i have EVER seen. I use to play a lot of tennis in my younger days so love it when wimbledon comes on for a couple of weeks a year.

Even my missus loved it, although I think it may had had something more to do with the fact she has a little crush on Nadal!

By the way, has anyone else got any similar blogs that they are writing on the same subject as me, really interested to see how other people may be getting on ( or falling behind ) with their progress.

shoulders last night

Shoulders and triceps ladt night. Had the weekend off again, really bad, i need to stick to this routine, it’s 8 weeks till holiday!

I did:

4 sets of clean and press

4 sets of lateral raises

4 sets of reverse flyes

4 sets of arnold presses.

then:

4 sets of narrow dips

4 sets of tricep push downs.

However, feel bad with myself as i drove to work again today and didn’t cycle… need to be more strict with myself.

had some good pitta breads and tuna today so am ready for a big session tonight.

Why i think protein is important

Right, well i’m really down at the moment as i haven’t been to the gym in over a week due to not being very well… makes me so angry when i can’t go. I convince myself i am losing size every day that goes by.

Anyway, think i’m going to be back next week so will hit it hard, as only 6 and a half weeks untill my holiday. Reason i am writing a blog entry today really is that a couple of people have asked why i drink protein shakes all the time and how they help so thought i would write my thoughts on this and see if any of you out there agree with me or have anything to add.

I was constantly told when i started training that not only can i just weight lift but i have to really concentrate on my diet too - Without the correct nutritional diet then your training could really be affected and your body could suffer. One of the main things i began to learn was how important carbohydrate and protein intake was.

Research has shown that carbohydrate intake within two hours of and during endurance exercise is essential to building adequate glycogen stores for continued training. I usually stuff my face with loads of pasta and rice to get enough carbs down me but sometimes i eat Maxim energy bars if i can’t get a proper meal. Many people also forget that eating carbohydrates is also essential after sport - you will have used up almost all your energy stores (depending on how intense you effort was of course), and your body has to recover and repair itself and in order to do this, the body has to have enough energy to supply and repair the damaged muscle tissue

It’s not just energy and fuel that your body needs. After exercising your muscle tissues have been damaged and need to repair and to do that the body has to take on more protein. As far as i understand, protein contains amino acids which are the building blocks of muscle. The protein is essential to help repair and build your muscles. I try and eat loads of protein druing the day… i practically live on cans of tuna! However, after training some experts say you have a 20 minute window to get enough protein down you to repair the damaged muscles. This is why i constantly carry around a protein shake. I drink Maxim Whey protein as this is the only shake i have tried that actually tastes normal and not like powder!

There are different types of protein you can take and the jury is still out on which one works best. Some poeple take Creatin which is the body’s natural source of protein - also found in red meat, and others, like myself, take Whey protein which is also a great natural source.

So basically you need to take on extra protein and carbohydrates to bulk up which is what i was focused on. However, now i am cuting my carbohydrate intake as this is supposed to help shred but keeping my intake of protein at a high level to keep building muscle.

Gym this morning before work, up at 6.45am …. A RIDICULOUS TIME FOR ME! But, like i say… not long now and i’m away this weekend so miss my session tomorrow and probably sunday depending on what time i get back.

Really not happy with my progress at the moment, i feel like i’m not making any gains… HELP!!! anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to kick start it all again?

Afternoon everyone.

8 weeks yesterday until holiday… really have to knuckle down now with the training. I even managed to avoid cleaning the house yesterday as i sneaked to the gym under my strict schedule ( or when it suits me! ). I always clean the house incorrectly anyway, whatever i clean, my girlfriend re-cleans so saves me wasting my time and sulking!

Went for a cycle ride the other night again, did baout 5 miles. Did a great back workout yesterday … should have done cardio in theory but always prefer lifting. Chest tonight.

Anyone else out there as bothered about looking good on holiday apart from me?
