fit flops catching the imagination of women everywhere

Friday, May 30th, 2008

We’re here to keep you all informed of interesting technologies…

Well …. what with it being summer and everything it seems the eternal quest for a beach body is on - and this ties in nicely with the technology that is catching our eye at the moment……..fit flops.

FitFlop Leisure Sandal

What’s more fit flops seem to be catching everyones eye - not only are they selling well, they seem to plastered all over the women’s glossy magazines - featured in such style bibles as vogue and grazia.

Anyway …… from a shoe technology perspective what’s it all about?

Well, several leading studies have shown that wearing Fitflops actually extends the amount of time that your slow twitch muscles are engaged during each step by between 10-12%. They do this becasue they have a multi-density midsole which works your big leg and bum muscles in a slightly different way through the foot strike. So, just by wearing them, walking to work, working around the house or shopping and you’ll feel and see the benefit. Fitflops have even been clinically proven to increase the amount of time that the gluteus maximus muscle is activated during walking…meaning they work your bum muscles more.

Our view? …. Although the multi density midsole technology isn’t necessarily revolutionary, the way it is being applied (to help tone muscles) is new and interesting. The stats back up the hype, they’re mega comfy and they’re as hot as hell.

These sandals get a big thumbs up from us

National 10 mile tt champs

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Hi,

A disappointing result in the National 10 yesterday, I came 4th with a time of 23:00 to Katie Colclough (22:10) Corrine Hall (22:36) and Hannah Barnes (22:43)
I had hoped to at least medal in this, so to come 4th was a huge disappointment, especially as it was a selection race for the European Time Trial. However, I simply wasn’t good enough on the day.

I’ve got a few days off my bike now, so I can enjoy doing normal things like shopping and going out and then come back off my break refreshed and ready to start putting the hours in again!

My next race is a Womens National Series race early June and the next main target is the National Womens Circuit Race Champs on the 22nd…hopefully next time I’ll have some better news!

6 brilliant new asics running shoes

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

As I write we are just taking delivery of 6 brilliant new Asics shoes.

Basically a package of cracking entry level running trainers:

  • For neutral runners we have the asics oberon 2 which has gel technology for only £29.99 - available in mens and womens
  • For moderate overpronators (that’s 70% of you remember) there is the Asics Gel Virage 2 - again the shoe features gel cushioning and duomax medial support. Plenty of technology for only £34.99. Also available in mens and womes - the womens shoe in particular has some really nice styling.
  • Finally, we have mens and womens Asics Gel Enduro at £29.99 - the enduro has been around a while - it’s asic’s entry level trail shoe and normally sells at £49.99 - so at £29.99 I would recommend getting involved early before they all go.

That’s all for now - we’ve got to get them all unpacked!

RIDICULOUS!

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Shoulders and triceps last night, triceps were good but may have to add in another shoulder one to the routine, pretty good though, just over an hour. Didn’t eat much during the day though so didn’t perform at 100%.

Tonight i will do though… back and abs… had my toast for brekkie and now about to have soe porridge and brought in a protein shake for mid afternoon.

quality not quantity

Monday, May 19th, 2008

This week has been a fairly quiet week training-wise. I got back from Italy on Sunday where I’d been competing in a stage race. It was pretty hilly with lots of steep twisting descents but it was a good learning experience and GB’s climber, Katie Colclough finished 3rd overall so it was a good result for the team! This week I’ve been mad revising for exams, so have been doing quality work, but not quantity. Its been mostly sessions on the turbo or rollers and gym sessions at Leeds Met. (I got new PB’s in the snatch and dumbell press!) The turbo and rollers are quite hard mentally as there isn’t the enjoyment of going out on a ride but its a good way to sharpen up for competition, especially time trialling. I also did a 10 mile time trial on Wednesday night down at Kildwick nr Skipton which went well…good preparation for the National 10 mile tt Champs down in Portsmouth next weekend :) …will let you know how that goes!
